St. Martin's island


St. Martin's island the only coral island in Bangladesh

God has given some ideas for heaven and .sometimes with those ideas we try to match something with the heaven.
Bangladesh is endowed with a full of natural resources by the creator, in our life style , Nature plays an important role and naturally we are fond of nature. So whenever we fell bore in our busy and monotonous life, we try get relief of that with the touch of nature.
Bangladesh has many magnificent places around it self including mangrove forests, hills, teagardens, bay of Bengal, and a large number of islands spread around the bay of Bengal. Among them Saint Martins Island is one of them. which is the best holiday places where you can go for next holidays..
Saint martins island is only coral island in Bangladesh, which is in the north west part of bay of Bengal, about 9 kml south of tip of the coxsbazar -teknaf peninsula. The island is also called in locally " Narical Gingira"St Martin island is endowed with vast marine and land resources having great biodiversity significance. The island is the example of co-occurrences of corals, seaweeds algae and grasses.
Saint martins in only tropical cliché and the only coral island in the country, with the beaches fringed with coconut palms and laid back locals .Its possible to walk around the island in day, since it measures 8 kml ,shrinking to about 5 kml ,during high tide. Most of the island's 7000 inhabitants live primarily from fishing and between October and April fishermen from neighboring areas bring their catch to the island's temporary whole sale market .Rice and coconut are the other staple crops and algae is collected and dried from the sea rocks and sold for consumption to Myanmar.
Most of the concentrated around the far north of the island ,which the center and south
huts. Their is no electricity on the island ,though the larger hotels run generators in the evening for few hours .November to February is main tourist season with the best weather, though keep an eye on the forecast, as the occasional cyclone can strike during this time.
How to get in: -
if any one getting to st martins island here is three prosess.First you will have to fly or bus it down to cox'sbazar and then take a bus to coxsbazar to teknaf.or you can directly go from Dhaka to teknaf, which is right on the very southern tip of Bangladesh, sandwiched up against Myanmar with the naff river from Teknaff ferries run daily and take around 3 hours.
The total distance from Dhaka to the island is 510 kml.
Ferries leave the island around 3 pm. For the regular Eagle ferries you need not pre booked .but if you are taking more reliable you can take Keari Sinbad ferry.

Get Round:-

Arriving from the port you will walk through a strip of basic restaurant and shops it a tea junctions .Left you will take to eastern beaches , just a right turn will take you along the main cement road where the most of the hotels and guesthouse are ,ending at the north west part of the island. At one point a left turn leads around the newly built hospital; and into the center of the island. Its an interesting walk and eventually leads out to the western beach just north of the sea Turtle Hatchery, after a couple wrong turns flatbed cycle rickshaws are the only transport aside from walking. There are no motorized vehicles the island not even motor cycle.

=> The magnificent natural view starts just after your departure from teknaf.At one side you can see the hills of teknaf .and on the other side the ominous view of Myanmar wil admire you all the way to St Martins Island . The blue water &the assemble point of Naff river and Bay Of Bengal will give you thrilling experience.
=>Sunrise on the east side of the island and after a lazy day head over  to the west side for sunset. Sunset point is a rocky peninsula on the north west corner of the island , near St Mratins Island and low tide coincide.

=>Village life is low paced most work happens in the morning and evening is reserved for drying fish and rice and selling your coconuts or more likely sitting in the shade chewing paan.

=>Stars are amazingly plentiful on a moonless night due to the lack of electricity on the island.

Shopping=>There are couple of shops near the port and along the main road selling the very basic necessaries and old souvenir T Shirts , hats and sunglasses. see shells and things made from them are sold by little children around the island but its illegal leads to the depletion of sea life.

Eat=> All basic kinds of food are available their but the thing you should not miss that is lobster and dried fish which is quite expensive.


If you want you can visit the island in one day and go back again .As tempting as it may be to cross into Myanmar , it is highly illegal and very unlikely that you could arrange a boat from anyhow .Simply enjoy the beauty of coast and if you are intend to going ,head up to dhaka get a visa and fly from there.
